VIRTUAL REALITY DEBUTS IN FLORIDA COURTROOM
Rod Englert recently testified as a defense expert witness in a hearing where Virtual Reality (VR) was debuted in a Florida courtroom. Judge Andrew Siegel allowed Oculus Quest 2 headsets to be utilized in VR to visualize Rod Englert’s expert opinion in the form of a forensic animation. Attorneys Kenneth and Joshua Padowitz believe this to be a first in Florida, and possibly the United States.
“Rod Englert’s groundbreaking collaboration with Kenneth Padowitz, P.A. and Eyewitness Animations in reconstructing a riotous scene at Miguel Rodriguez Albisu’s wedding venue, in which Albisu was forced to stand his ground in self-defense against intoxicated wedding guests-turned-trespassers, set a new precedent in forensic evidence presentation in America. Largely thanks to his thorough review of the evidence and his expertise in reconstructing complex crime scenes, Rod Englert played a crucial role in our client’s defense by helping us successfully pioneer the integration of Forensic Animation and Virtual Reality; and ultimately, based on Rod Englert’s court testimony, in convincing Circuit Judge Siegel to view and then admit the VR Forensic Animation into evidence for the first time in a criminal case in the United States. Succinctly put, with Rod’s expertise, we have revolutionized the way evidence is experienced in criminal court rooms. This milestone not only showcases our innovative approach, but also paves the way for the future of immersive forensic animation evidence presentation in jury trials across the nation.”
